In this video I replace the ignition switch on my 1999 Suzuki Bandit 1200. The video covers all of the parts removal necessary to access the switch, the trials of dealing with red thread lock, the installation of the new switch and reinstallation of all the parts.
Why did I do this?
When I got the bike the ignition switch was hard to use, requiring a lot of key wiggling and twisting. Lubrication hasn't improved it and I became concerned that the key might break off in the lock.
The most difficult part of this job was removing the old ignition switch from the upper fork bridge. Research showed me that the bolts were secured with red thread lock, which must be heated to 300ºF to release. Once I had that information the task became much easier.
