When you realize your parent may need more care, one of the hardest questions becomes: Who can you trust? In this video, I’m sharing what I pay attention to when thinking about care for my mom; from how staff communicate and treat people, to safety, cleanliness, responsiveness, and the overall feeling of the environment. As a preschool director, I spend much of my professional life thinking about quality of care, staffing, safety, communication, and how people are treated. But when the person you are advocating for is your own mother, you look at those things through a completely different lens. I don’t have every answer, and I’m still navigating this process in real time. I’m sharing what I’m learning as a daughter trying to make thoughtful decisions for someone I love.
