How did the most famous Viking leaders really die—and how much of what we remember comes from legend?
This original illustrated documentary investigates the deaths of Harald Hardrada, Ragnar
Lothbrok, Ivar the Boneless, Olaf Haraldsson, Cnut the Great, Erik Bloodaxe, Harald Bluetooth, Rollo, Bjorn Ironside and Leif Erikson—before following their story into the world of William the Conqueror.
Some deaths are recorded by near-contemporary sources. Others survive only in sagas written generations later. A few remain complete historical mysteries.
From an arrow at Stamford Bridge and Ragnar’s legendary snake pit to uncertain graves, disputed identities and archaeological evidence, this film separates what the stories claim from what the surviving record can actually support.
