"Superhero Bolero” came from another song I wrote called “The Superhero Nobody Knows,” which I should post at some point. It was a song with words, but I took the piano parts out and built a neo-classical instrumental around them. “Ravel's Bolero” is one of my favorite classical music pieces. It's an orchestral piece, not a piano piece like mine. The use of bass drums and a woodwind flute, are about the only similarity, although I tried to build sounds like Ravel, layering multiple pianos. When I was eight years old, I started studying classical piano. I got pretty good at it, but I was undisciplined and never liked to practice. I'd rather be outside playing basketball or tennis, but after a couple of years at it, I played a few formal recitals and got a warm reception. Before my voice changed, around 10 years old, I joined a youth choir, my other journey into classical music. We studied at the University of Miami on weekends, learning how to sight read and sing in different languages (Latin and German). It was a great experience. We played to sold out concert halls in the Southeast US and Caribbean. I wasn't a good enough singer or performer to be a soloist, but I was a solid soprano voice in the ensemble, with 40 other boy sopranos. Eventually I moved on to jazz piano, which, I think gave me more freedom to start thinking about writing my own music. I wanted to use a modern dance or ballet theme for the video, and Pexels video is my go to for finding clips to edit. The user Cottonbro Studio is a prolific and talented videographer on the site. I wish I could credit the dance artist by name, but that information is not provided on the site. He looks like a young superhero to me which is why I chose this suite of clips. #originalsongwriter #neoclassical #classicalmusic #lgbt ©️ 2026 for Joe G's Journal ASCAP work ID: 894339862
