सोचिए… जिस पैकेट को देखकर हम अपने बच्चों के लिए बिना ज्यादा सोचे कोई food product खरीद लेते हैं, क्या हमें वास्तव में पता है कि उसमें कितना Sugar, Fat या दूसरे nutrients मौजूद हैं? इसी सवाल से जुड़ा एक महत्वपूर्ण मामला Supreme Court of India के सामने आया है। मामला है 3S and Our Health Society बनाम Union of India & Anr., जिसमें Court ने Food Safety and Standards Authority of India यानी FSSAI से packaged food पर Front of Pack Labelling यानी FoPL को लेकर कई महत्वपूर्ण सवाल पूछे हैं। Imagine buying a food product for your child without thinking twice because it appears safe and familiar. But do we really know how much sugar, fat, or other nutrients of concern it contains? A significant matter connected with these concerns came before the Supreme Court of India. The case is 3S and Our Health Society v. Union of India & Anr., in which the Court raised several important questions before the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India, or FSSAI, regarding Front of Pack Labelling, known as FoPL, on packaged food. Court ने अपने order में बच्चों की eating habits को लेकर गंभीर चिंता व्यक्त की। Court के सामने यह बात आई कि बच्चे कम उम्र में ही ऐसे food choices के संपर्क में आ जाते हैं, जिन्हें समझने और evaluate करने की क्षमता उनके पास पूरी तरह विकसित नहीं होती। यही वजह है कि Court ने माना कि बच्चों को unhealthy eating behaviour विकसित होने का खतरा है और इस दिशा में कुछ action लिया जाना जरूरी है। The Court expressed serious concern about the eating habits of children. It noted that children are exposed to various food choices at an age when their ability to properly understand and evaluate what they consume may not yet be fully developed. Therefore, the Court observed that children face a risk of developing unhealthy eating behaviours and that some action is necessary in this regard. Court ने अपने previous observations का उल्लेख करते हुए बच्चों के आसपास के food environment पर भी ध्यान दिया। Order में UNICEF report का reference दिया गया है और यह concern सामने आया कि schools के आसपास packaged snacks आसानी से उपलब्ध होते हैं। Court ने इस बात को भी महत्वपूर्ण माना कि किसी बच्चे का particular foods के साथ exposure उसकी dietary preferences को प्रभावित कर सकता है। The Court also focused on the food environment surrounding children. Referring to observations from its previous order and a UNICEF report, the Court noted the concern that packaged snacks are widely available in the vicinity of schools. The Court also considered it significant that a child's exposure to particular foods can directly influence dietary preferences.
