I turned the receiver on tonight, found a song, and almost forgot how ridiculous that sentence is. Not that the music wasn't exciting. It was. But this is starting to feel less like a miracle I have to wrestle out of a machine and more like something I know how to do. Anchor at zero. Back to the area where I found 007A, 008A, and 009A. I let the signals overlap for a little while, listening for something I could follow instead of trying to clear all the noise at once. There was a beat underneath the others. A low, repeating synth that kept disappearing and coming back. I adjusted Depth until I could hear it on its own, then backed off the Drift until the picture stopped rolling. Clean audio. Stable picture. Another song from someone I don't know. I recorded it, wrote down the settings, and filed it with the others. That's the part that gets me now. I have folders for these things. Notes. Recordings. An increasingly stupid number of little pieces of tape stuck around the controls. Four unknown songs from roughly the same area, and enough fragments between them that I could probably spend a week here without hearing everything. I used to call the space between signals empty. Now I'm starting to wonder if there's any empty space at all. I've also been going through the recordings I've already released. The early ones are a mess. I wasn't keeping proper notes. Half the settings are guesses, and some of the equipment I used back then isn't even connected the same way anymore. Especially 001. The very first signal. The one that started all of this. I remember exactly how it felt to hear it. I have almost no idea how I found it. And after everything I've learned since then, that seems like something I should fix. So I'm going to put the wandering on hold for a bit. I want to go back to the beginning. This time with the television, my notes, and at least some idea of what I'm doing.
