Why are Pakistani women still being judged by what they wear?
Parishae Adnan recently appeared on Nadia Khan’s show after an incredible achievement at New York Fashion Week but instead of focusing on her work, fashion, creativity and journey, a huge part of the conversation turned towards her clothes, gym videos, body and whether her parents approve of what she wears.
And honestl why are we still having these conversations?
This isn’t just about Parishae Adnan or Nadia Khan. It’s about a much bigger problem in Pakistani society: our obsession with policing women’s clothing, bodies and “character” while treating their actual achievements as secondary.
From Parishae Adnan to Sajal Aly, Mahira Khan, Hania Aamir, Iqra aziz and so many other Pakistani women, we’ve seen how quickly the conversation around a woman can shift from her work to her appearance.
In this video, I’m talking about Pakistani culture, women’s clothing, modesty, feminism, double standards, celebrity culture, social media and why a woman’s outfit seems to become everyone’s business.
What do you think ? are we actually becoming more accepting, or are we just finding new ways to judge women?
