I came for bamboo… but found their story. At around 6:30 in the morning, while most of Hyderabad was still waking up, the work here had already begun. Bamboo was being cut, split, shaped and woven by hand. I came to Bamboo Street near Nampally Exhibition Grounds, Hyderabad, thinking I would simply discover how these beautiful bamboo products are made. But after spending time with the people here, I realized something. The real story wasn’t the bamboo. It was the people behind it. Every basket, every piece of bamboo and every handmade product has hours of work behind it. But beyond the craft are stories of family, livelihood, struggle, loss and the everyday reality of people who continue doing this work. In this documentary, I spend a morning inside Hyderabad’s Bamboo Street and meet the artisans who make this place what it is. Some stories were about the craft. Some were about survival.
