Is the Spring Mount corridor in south St. James the most dangerous road in Jamaica? In this video, we take an up-close look at the devastating impact of Hurricane Melissa on the island’s infrastructure. One year after the storm, the road remains severely eroded, with parts of the corridor reduced to a narrow strip perched precariously beside a steep drop. Despite temporary relief efforts by the National Works Agency to widen sections for access, the situation remains dire. We explore how this ongoing road crisis is affecting daily life for residents, including the alarming report that Maldon High School has lost more than 300 students who can no longer safely navigate the route. With permanent reconstruction still unresolved and authorities citing the need for further soil testing before a final design can be implemented, many are left wondering when—or if—a safe, permanent solution will be reached. Join us as we document the current state of this critical roadway and the challenges facing the community as they wait for a path forward.
