Thābit ibn Qurra was one of the remarkable scholars of the 9th-century Abbasid era in Baghdad. Born in Harran, he became an important mathematician, astronomer, translator, and scholar. His work contributed to geometry, number theory, amicable numbers, and mathematical astronomy. He worked with important Greek scientific texts associated with Euclid, Archimedes, Apollonius, and Ptolemy, helping preserve and develop scientific knowledge in the intellectual world of Abbasid Baghdad. His work on amicable numbers is especially famous, including the mathematical relationship between 220 and 284. In astronomy, Thābit ibn Qurra worked on the mathematical study of the Sun, Moon, and celestial motions. In this video, we explore his real historical contributions to mathematics and astronomy — without fictional stories or invented achievements. Note: Thābit ibn Qurra was a Sabian scholar, not a Muslim. He is featured as an important scholar of the Abbasid-era scientific tradition.
