This isolation is taken from the center channel of the 5.1 surround sound Signals mix. It is the original song. Why do the drums sound funny? Seeing as the drums are composed of several different microphones panned at different positions, only some of the drums are routed through the centre channel mainly being the kick and snare. Cymbals are usually panned hard left and right, so you don't really hear them besides some bleed. Also you can hear how the toms are gated too. In parts the bass pedals are also audible. Sounds totally like he's playing the Jazz Bass with both pickups on.
