District heating in Copenhagen: From black city to climate friendly capital

Before district heating, the air in Copenhagen was thick with black smoke from coal, coke and petroleum from the many private stoves. Today, 99 per cent of Copenhagen's heat consumption is covered by district heating. The black smoke over the city is gone. The district heating system will play a crucial role in making Copenhagen the world's first CO2 neutral capital in 2025.
