Cliff Imagines His Own DEATH — The Cosby Show DESTROYED the Age-Gap Debate

Cliff Huxtable's old mentor from his intern days drops by with his new girlfriend. He's 53. She is very much not. And she's a huge fan of Clyde, the rock star with the tongue and the tattoo. Cliff is polite about it, mostly. He's less polite about Clyde. She reads out a lyric to prove the man can write, and Cliff agrees it's lovely — because she said the words, not Clyde. In exchange, she's been listening to his Miles Davis albums, and she likes the later stuff. She just wishes Miles would sing. After they leave, Clair admits she spent the whole visit looking for something to be wrong with her. There wasn't. Then the kids weigh in: if you really like someone, age doesn't matter. So Cliff builds a scenario to test that. Suppose he died, and Clair came home with a 19-year-old boy. Nobody even takes a tenth of a second to mourn. He's a hypothetical dead man, and he's already out on the sidewalk with the garbage. Clair loves him dearly, but she has a note: he never gets to the point. The Cosby Show at its most ridiculous.
