Mārcis Štrobinders (Latvia) javelin Lapinlahti 1992-06-21 Mārcis Štrobinders (born June 12, 1966) is a former Latvian javelin thrower who competed internationally for both his country and the Soviet Union in the early 1990s. His son, Rolands Štrobinders, later followed in his footsteps and also became a successful Olympic javelin thrower. Personal best: His best official throw is 81.78 meters, achieved in 1993. He represented Latvia at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. There, he threw a distance of 76.32 meters in the qualifying round, which was not enough to reach the final. He is an eight-time Latvian javelin champion. In 1987, in Riga, he broke the 80-meter barrier for the first time using the then-newly introduced type of javelin (throwing 80.04 meters). After his active athletic career, he began working as an athletics coach. He is active at the sports club in his hometown of Talsi, among other places, and coaches his son.
