Teaching Porcelain: From the Pottery Wheel to Workshops and Exhibitions

Learn how to handbuild and to wheel- throw translucent porcelain forms. Porcelain is not as difficult to work with as many potters believe, but it has specific characteristics that require attention and an understanding of the material. I teach potters around the world how to throw and handbuild with porcelain through online classes, hands-on workshops and demonstrations. My teaching includes functional forms such as mugs, bowls, cups, plates and pitchers, as well as more sculptural porcelain work. Understanding porcelain remains the foundation of the way I teach. Once you begin to understand how the clay behaves and what it requires, you can explore different techniques and develop your own forms with greater confidence. This video includes clips from my hands-on workshops and online classes, along with a keynote presentation at the opening of one of my exhibitions in South Africa. Together, these moments offer an introduction to my approach to porcelain, pottery and teaching.
