Chris Hemsworth has shut down Wild State, the production company he launched in 2022 — and its website now shows a blank page reading "expired." In four years it produced a shark documentary and a series about ageing, and a partnership with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's Artists Equity yielded nothing at all. Meanwhile he's reported to be earning $40 million for two Avengers films.
This isn't really a story about one company closing. It's about why almost every A-list actor has a production company and almost none of them produce anything you've heard of. Wild State had everything you'd want: a first-look deal with National Geographic, a formal partnership with Artists Equity — founded by Ben Affleck, Matt Damon and RedBird Capital's Gerry Cardinale — and one of the most bankable stars alive attached to it. What came out of it was a shark documentary and three seasons of Limitless. The Artists Equity deal expired last year and wasn't renewed, with no notable film or series to show for it. The reason is in the reporting and nobody frames it as the story: every time a project started gaining momentum, Hemsworth had to commit to another film. A production company built around a working movie star runs on that star's time, and his time is the most expensive thing in the equation — which is why he's now shooting Extraction 3 for Netflix rather than developing anything.
The closure is reported by Page Six Hollywood. Several claims in their original piece are anonymously sourced and about private individuals, and are deliberately not repeated in this video.
