Lyon of the North: Rebecca Lyon, 2026 Distinguished Artist

Mixed media artist Rebecca Lyon is the first Dena’ina artist to receive Rasmuson Foundation’s Distinguished Artist award. Her work blends natural materials with plastics and found objects to directly address urgent cultural and political issues. Born in Cordova, Lyon grew up witnessing her grandmother and mother’s leadership and advocacy. Lyon carries on this legacy of engagement through her art. Please enjoy this mini-documentary about the life and work of Rebecca Lyon by filmmaker Brad Hillwig.
