I visited Markaz Takwin al-Ulama in Nouakchott, Mauritania, a school founded in 2007 with one aim: to make scholars. Every student arrives having memorised the whole Quran. Housing, food and tuition are free, paid for by donors from across the Muslim world. The Markaz runs entirely on donations. I'm collecting for the students here: https://launchgood.com/takwin. Every dollar goes to the Markaz, and I'll post the transfer receipt once it's sent. I'm collecting personally, not as a registered charity, so there are no tax receipts. Shaykh Salah takes us through what the students study, and at each step one of them recites what he has memorised: the Quran in the seven modes of recitation, Mukhtasar Khalil in fiqh, Bulugh al-Maram in hadith, the lineage of the Prophet ﷺ back to Adam, Ibn Asim's poem on Usul al-Fiqh, the Muallaqa of al-Nabigha al-Dhubyani, and one student's own poem in praise of the Prophet ﷺ. We filmed in the rainy season, on my last day in the country. Arabic and English captions throughout. 0:00:00 Markaz Takwin al-Ulama, Nouakchott 0:00:25 Shaykh Salah on the aim of the Markaz 0:01:22 Free housing, food and tuition 0:01:39 Why the Ummah needs scholars 0:02:42 Freeing students to study 0:03:45 Qira'at: the seven modes, then the ten 0:06:28 Fiqh: from al-Akhdari to Khalil 0:08:44 Hifz and fahm, ilm and amal 0:09:41 Hadith and the sanad 0:12:35 Seerah and the lineage of the Prophet ﷺ 0:14:42 Students from all over the world 0:14:59 Usul al-Fiqh: Ibn Asim's 800 lines 0:18:27 Arabic and the Muallaqat 0:21:30 A student's own poem for the Prophet ﷺ 0:24:26 Closing recitation: Surah Luqman
