12 Singers Americans Refuse to Believe Are Canadian

Every English word Frank Sinatra sang in "My Way" was written by a singer from Ottawa, Ontario. Some of the most American-sounding hits of the last 60 years, from summer anthems to Super Bowl halftime shows to Nashville's best-selling record, were made by people born north of the border. In this countdown, we trace 12 singers back to their Canadian hometowns: a song of the summer first heard on British Columbia radio, a "Summer of '69" anthem written by a kid who was nine that summer, and the definitive Woodstock song by the one person who never made it to the festival. Every birthplace is checked against The Canadian Encyclopedia, and number one wears a cowboy hat. 👉 Which of these 12 did you have filed as American?
