McDirt's Army - 5.4 vs Ole Miss

For the third time this season the Red Raiders faced off against a top 5 opponent, and for the second time it was on the road. This time against #3 Ole Miss. The Red Raiders seem to have a script when it comes to these games as once again they fell behind early and looked shaky early in the game. One problem that continues to emerge is the offensive line's inability to protect QB LaMichael Looker. Looker has been banged up this year, including missing the first game of his career, and has taken a beating in the games he's been on the field. The lack of protection has started to manifest itself in the form of interceptions as Looker continues to get happy feet and rush throws. Despite the four first half turnovers the Red Raiders found themselves down just 17-7 as the defense continues to dominate their opponents. Down 17-14 late in the 3rd Qrt after a short Looker TD run the Black Shirts forced a 3 & out and handed the ball back to the offense for a chance to take the lead. And the Red Raiders offense answered the bell. A methodical drive filled with screens, draws, and bubbles finally slowed down the Rebel pass rush. "We've got to do a better job of keeping the defense off balance. They've started pinning their ears back against us and we've got to counter that. And we will" McDirt said. The 21-14 lead held up for the Red Raiders. It was the lowest point total they've had this season, but McDirt and the players don't seem to be worried. "The sacks and turnovers are obviously bad and a concern, but we've got the best staff in the country and we'll watch the tape and make some adjustments." McDirt said.
