You hatch inside a capsule the size of a grape seed, with no eyes, no lungs, no jaws, no bones and no legs. What you have is a tube - built to push through dirt and pass it through itself. SHIRTS: https://zoozle-shop.fourthwall.com/ The earthworm design is the coil of segments drawn flat. A few things worth being precise about: Cutting a worm in half does not make two worms. The front half - the end with the mouth and the organs - can sometimes survive and regrow a shortened tail. The back half has no mouth and no brain; it twitches because the nerve cord keeps firing, and then it dies. The animal that genuinely splits into two complete animals is a flatworm, not an earthworm. Earthworms do not surface in rain to avoid drowning. They can survive fully submerged for days. When researchers soaked soil until water stood on the surface, only six worms came up across three trials. They surface because vibration in the soil reads as a digging MOLE. Darwin noted this in 1881, and a 2008 Vanderbilt study showed that 'worm grunters' who harvest bait by vibrating a stake are unknowingly imitating a mole. A mole does not kill the worms it takes. Its saliva immobilises them, and recorded larders have held several hundred paralysed worms at once. Darwin's last book (1881) was about earthworms and how they build topsoil. In northern North American forests that lost their worms to glaciation, European earthworms are an invasive species. Species in this video is the common earthworm, Lumbricus terrestris.
