A leisurely cycle ride along mostly country lanes around the Norfolk Broads, keeping close to the rivers. The Norfolk Broads area is excellent for leisure cycling, being mostly as flat as Holland and with some very quiet byways, lanes, and footpaths that link up to enable long quiet circular routes. This one starts at Ludham Bridge and goes via Horning, Wroxham, Salhouse, Woodbastwick, Acle, Thurne, Potter Heigham, and back to Ludham. The 30 mile trip takes around 2 hours at a leisurely pace, though Lycra clad enthusiasts can no doubt can do it in half that time. Although I have previously used racing bikes, I used a "Giant Trance" full suspension touring bike for this trip, nice and light, yet very comfortable. Modern sophisticated bikes like this with wide gearing, comfortable saddles and semi upright riding positions make long trips enjoyable, even for overweight pensioners like me. The section between Horning and Wroxham along the A1062 has now been improved with a section of the new "Three Rivers Way" cycle route, so that can now be achieved much more safely off the road, along the much widened footway/cycle track. There are many quiet country lanes around the Broads that have been bypassed by faster roads, leaving these perfect for cycling and walking. Although fairly narrow, they are quiet open sided, with few blind bends, giving ample warning of the minimal cars that use them. The video was shot with a Sony AS30V action cam at 1080p 30fps, with the GPS tracking recorded as well, which was then overlayed in post production to give the moving map and speed/distance info.
