Historical & Cultural Notes
Tbilisi has been a capital city for various Georgian kingdoms and republics over centuries.
During the Russian Empire (1801–1917), it was the seat of the Caucasus Viceroyalty.
Sioni Cathedral: A historic Georgian Orthodox cathedral in Tbilisi, first built in the 6th–7th centuries, rebuilt multiple times.
Holy Trinity Cathedral (“Sameba”): Built between 1995–2004. One of the largest Orthodox churches in the world by area.
Bridge of Peace: A modern, bow-shaped pedestrian bridge over the Kura River, made of steel and glass, opened in 2010.
