NFL head coaches have paid tribute to Mike Ditka, the Hall of Fame player and coach who led the Chicago Bears to their famous Super Bowl XX victory with the 1985 team. Ditka died on Friday, October 9, at the age of 86, his family announced. Green Bay Packers coach Matt LaFleur offered condolences to the Bears and the Ditka family, calling him a “true legend of the game” as both a player and a coach. Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell shared a memorable story of meeting Ditka during the NFL scouting combine. Campbell recalled entering a smoke-filled room where Ditka sat with a large cigar, describing the experience as both intimidating and one of the best moments of his life. Baltimore Ravens coach Jesse Minter also praised the legacy of the 1985 Bears, while New York Giants coach John Harbaugh recalled meeting Ditka through his brother, Jim Harbaugh, who played under him in Chicago. Known as “Iron Mike” and “Da Coach”, Ditka helped redefine the tight-end position during his playing career before becoming one of the NFL’s most recognisable coaches. He was inducted into both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. #mikeditka #chicagobears #nfl #ironmike #dacoach #dancampbell #mattlafleur #johnharbaugh #nflnews #footballlegend #sportsnews
