Finding My Lost Love: 1969 Porsche 911 T

My Lost Love is a new series where Mads Christensen tracks down the cars he once owned and meets the people who have them now. Not to buy them back, but to find out what became of them. First up: behind an anonymous gate in Denmark sits the 1969 Porsche 911 T Mads owned for over a decade. Its new owner, Njal Daell, lets him back in, and behind the wheel, for the first time in 12 years. Born red in Minnesota, once purple, now green: a poor man's 911 that Mads rebuilt to look like a '69 and drive like a '79. A 2.7 engine, five-speed gearbox, oil cooler from a 3.2, Boxster brakes, 16-inch Fuchs wheels, S trim, thicker torsion bars and steering rods from a Turbo. Njal has kept the dents, the gaffer-taped door pocket and the original radio, and given it a brand-new magnesium engine block from Porsche. Not NOS. NNS: new new stock. First Njal drives, then Mads does, gloves on. They talk about why it is more fun to be fast in a slow car than slow in a fast car, why classic Porsches make people smile and wave, what feedback really means, and why neither of them thinks of himself as an owner.
