6 NS freights and a LORAM tie unloader around Shannon and Plainville, GA on 9/21/26

9/21/26 NS Atlanta North District Recorded at West Hermitage Road in Shannon, GA and Miller Loop in Plainville, GA Milepost 72.3H (Shannon) and 64.5H (Plainville) Yesterday morning, I decided to head just north of Plainville to the Webber Road/Miller Loop area to wait on trains for a while, as I had wanted to return to it ever since my last previous time there back in June. On my way there though, I saw an approach signal for a southbound at Berwin as I was passing by it, so I stopped at the MP 72 crossing to get it, which ended up being a 64Q with a flared radiator UP SD70M leading, which was really nice. After it passed, and I after I got done calling in the signals there (they had been repeatedly malfunctioning in the couple of minutes I was there), I continued my way north. After arriving, I would get to see 2 more freight trains before traffic on this part of the line came to a standstill. It ended up being because of a LORAM tie unloader train NS sent out from the yard in Rome to unload new crossties between Mileposts 66 (in downtown Plainville) and 64 (just around the curve visible in my southbound shots). It was definitely interesting getting to see it; it marked my first time ever actually seeing one. After it made it back south to Rome, freight traffic would resume, and I would get to see 3 more trains in the remaining roughly 2 more hours I was there, including one of NS' brand new ES44ACs from their recent order of them as a mid-DPU on 18E and 26C with the Wabash HU 2nd. Overall, it was a pretty decent day of train action!
