MELANIE OXLEY Happy Birthday He's So Tired

Melanie Oxley's beautiful voice has never been better used than on these two tracks segued for this post. One half of the sublime recordings from their 1990 EP 'Resisting Calm': 'Happy Birthday' and 'He's So Tired' boast some delicate and ethereal vocals from Melanie and some requisite brilliant piano from her collaborator Chris Abrahams. Melanie's voice is one of my favourites from my young adulthood: the 90's. Her albums with Chris have pride of place in my huge collection - they shimmer like pearls - i extricate them every now and again when i want to hear a familiar and soulful sound and Oxley & Abrahams provide that for me - always, irrespective of the mood I am in. Their music straddles pop, rock, jazz, blues and even country (please check out my post with their other wordly reading of Willie Nelson's 'The Way you see me'). In a world of overnight reality stars and over hyped celebrity recording artists, the quiet achievers and personal heroes are often the most beloved and treasured. Please enjoy the humble but powerful sound of Melanie Oxley and Chris Abrahams.
