Here are the first series of clips of Providence & Worcester operating on the Middletown Main, also referred to as the “Air Line.” ‘CT-1’ is one of many P&W jobs that run in Connecticut, originating from Cedar Hill Yard in North Haven. This train heads north on the Air Line with empty stone cars bound for Tilcon in Reeds Gap, just on the border with Wallingford and Durham, where they will be loaded and brought back to Cedar Hill, and in the night, they will be sent to other quarry’s, such as Danbury and Fresh Pond, New York. Occasionally, this train will have gondolas, which goes to RED Technologies in Portland, in addition to Perma Treat, just north of Reeds, sand hoppers, which are switched out at Palumbos in Wallingford, and coil cars, which go to Kloeckner Metals in Middletown. Rarely, P&W will run a second train, titled ‘NH-1,’ either with ballast cars, dumping on the Valley Line, or with center beams and/or boxcars to service 7D Wholesale in Rocky Hill. CT-1 services Tilcon seasonally, typically from March to November, and in between those months, they’re able to service towns north of Reeds. From 2016, after P&W was bought by Genesee & Wyoming, other engines from different G&W acquired railroads were starting to become a common sight on CT-1, such as CSOR SD40-2 3399, a highlight of these clips.
