Shunned by the Exclusive Brethren: Dennis Ragg, Richard's James Bond Escape

Five ex-members break the silence on the Exclusive Brethren. What they reveal about shunning, secrecy and control is hard to unhear. From windowless “meeting rooms” where women must stay silent to public confessions read to hundreds, former insiders detail rules that governed everything: no TV or radio (a “pipeline of filth”), no university, no outside jobs, and permissions for moves or travel. A fatal road crash sparks accusations of divine judgment. A family is split when one son stays and another returns — and a hospital crisis forces an unthinkable choice. Then comes surveillance on city buses, a midnight bag-pack, the phone battery pulled, and what one witness calls a “James Bond moment.” As prosperity replaces piety, they ask: what does separation really cost?
