Your body runs on chemistry. A society runs on communication. So why do they build almost exactly the same structures? #SystemsTheory
A single-celled slime mould with no brain rebuilt the Tokyo rail network. Cities scale like animals. Cancer and financial crises follow the same feedback pattern.
This video asks why — and how far science can actually take us.
We start with the parallels between biological and social systems, and what established science can explain about them: convergence under shared constraints, self-organisation, and thermodynamics. Then we look at where that explanation genuinely runs out — the point where physics stops being literal and starts being analogy. And in the last part we leave the current state of knowledge behind and look, more freely, at what else might be going on.
I studied health sciences — human biology first, then economics, then sociology — and this question has followed me ever since.
