Hike#72 KIBUNGAN CROSS COUNTRY
LAKBAY Sa Mga UMIIYAK Na KABUNDUKAN
The Kibungan cross country is a journey etched into the dreams of every avid hiker in the Philippines. Spanning three days and crossing three provinces, it is more than a trek, it is a passage through landscapes, traditions, and endurance.
The trail begins with rice terraces that mirror centuries of labor, then rises to knife-edge ridges and swaying hanging bridges. Here, the mountains themselves seem alive, shedding tears during the rainy season. Each step tests the hiker: steep ascents demand stamina, while the infamous Litalit trail, a technical descent from Batangan to Licungan, requires precision and courage.
Yet the cross country is not only about terrain. Along the way, hikers encounter echoes of Cordillera heritage: coffins tucked beneath rock shelters, silent guardians of an ancient burial tradition. Nights are spent in remote communities, where strangers met on the trail become companions, sharing meals, laughter, and stories under the mountain sky.
It is a rare immersion, three days of living simply, moving with the rhythm of the land, and discovering resilience within oneself. The Kibungan cross country is not just a hike; it is an experience that lingers, a memory carved into both body and spirit.
