This PAL4C Labs walkthrough goes deeper into three key areas of Palantir Foundry: creating an Ontology, writing Ontology functions, and connecting to data sources.
1. Creating your first Ontology
Several datasets are used to build an Ontology with link types and actions.
Actions can either edit existing data or create a new entry in a dataset.
Object Explorer and data lineage are used to find specific objects, see what they contain, and trace where their data comes from.
An action is then used to update the Ontology.
2. Ontology functions with TypeScript
Instead of relying only on built-in actions and editing features, you can write your own functions in TypeScript.
These functions handle more advanced changes and make Ontology dashboards smoother to use, without complicated workarounds.
3. Data connections
Foundry can connect to public or private data sources over the internet, so data doesn’t have to be stored locally.
That makes it easier for a company to reach its data wherever it’s stored, including Amazon S3, relational databases and REST APIs.
