MUCH Better Than I Expected! MAGnificent MAGnolia Woodturning

I wasn’t expecting to like this piece as much as I do! This week, I’m turning more Southern magnolia, but this blank has developed quite a bit of spalting and discoloration since it was fresh a couple of months ago. The three lobes and natural edge turned out fantastic. I used my usual tools for this one, mostly 5/8-inch bowl gouges. I did have to do some roughing with my larger 3/4-inch bowl gouge, which is an absolute beast, and then use a 1/2-inch bowl gouge to carefully work through some vibration in the upper third of the bowl. The finished piece is about 10.5 inches in diameter and just over 8 inches tall. The three high points of the lobes came out nicely even, and the spacing between them worked out especially well. It has been drying in the open air and is doing well so far. Southern magnolia doesn't move a whole lot as it dries, so cracking is not a major concern. I only turned it three days ago, so it probably needs another week to finish drying since I left it somewhat thick.
