Easy... Then THIS! Driving to Wallace Lake & U P Lake Near Salmon, Idaho

Wallace Lake and U P Lake near Salmon, Idaho make an incredible backcountry adventure through the mountains of the Salmon-Challis National Forest. On this RZR ride, we take our Polaris RZR Trail into the Idaho mountains to visit two beautiful high-country lakes - but the roads to these two destinations are VERY different! Our first destination is Wallace Lake, Idaho, a scenic mountain lake northwest of Salmon. The drive takes you into the Salmon River Mountains on Forest Service roads with beautiful mountain scenery along the way. Wallace Lake has a Forest Service campground and is also a popular fishing destination. Full size vehicles can readily access Wallace Lake. Then we head toward the much more remote U P Lake. This is where our Idaho off-road adventure gets interesting! The road became considerably rougher and more challenging, and there was a section where we weren't sure our little 50-inch Polaris RZR Trail was going to make it. We eventually reached U P Lake, and the beautiful remote mountain setting made the difficult drive worthwhile. Both of the routes we traveled are open to full-size vehicles. You don't necessarily need a side-by-side to explore these Idaho mountain lakes. Based on our experience, Wallace Lake was the easier drive. For the rougher approach to U P Lake, we'd personally be more comfortable with a capable Jeep, larger UTV, high-clearance 4x4 or other properly equipped off-road vehicle.
