What would you do for the hospital that saved your grandson's life? In this special episode of the Brush Wizards Podcast, Gary Proctor sits down with painter and decorator Kevin Jackson and his son-in-law Matt to hear the remarkable story behind their fundraising for Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Kevin has been a painter and decorator for nearly 22 years. But five years ago, his family's life changed when his grandson Ted was born with a heart defect and rushed to Birmingham Children’s Hospital. At one point, the family were told he might not survive the night. His heart stopped twice — but the hospital team revived him. Today, Ted has celebrated his fifth birthday. Since then, Kevin and his family have thrown themselves into fundraising. 🏔️ Climbing Snowdon at night 🥾 Walking 100 miles along Scotland's West Highland Way 🏜️ Trekking 70 miles across the Sahara 🎨 Raising money through the Painting & Decorating Show 🚣 Taking on a charity dragon boat race ❤️ Supporting Birmingham Children’s Hospital Kevin also discusses his upcoming Teddy's Rest and Restore Project, renovating 12 bedrooms and facilities used by critical-care staff at the hospital, with businesses from the decorating industry donating materials, time and expertise. The support from the painting and decorating industry has been incredible. Kevin specifically discusses support from Brewers and numerous manufacturers and exhibitors who have donated products and prizes to help raise money. This episode is about much more than decorating.
