In 1967 a broke insurance salesman talked 106 fishermen into paying $100 each to fish a tournament on Beaver Lake, Arkansas. Nobody thought it would work — bass derbies had a reputation for being rigged, and he was a stranger asking for money.
Ray Scott built B.A.S.S., the Bassmaster Classic, and a multibillion-dollar industry, then sold out in 1986. This is the whole story, including the lawsuit that asked who actually owned it.
