Thrush is a common problem many horse handlers deal with. It is a bacterial or fungal infection that affects the horses hooves.
There are many products on the market designed to combat thrush, and in my opinion, not one of them is better than another. What I think eliminates thrush the fastest in the shortest time span is to apply your treatment more often. In other words, you can buy the most expensive thrush medication, but if you are only using it every three days, you are probably wasting your money. I like to use bleach diluted in water. Its cheap, sold in most stores, and gets the job done! In fact, because I aways have some on hand, if rainy weather is keeping the pastures wet for days, I will use my bleach solution as a preventive measure after cleaning out hooves. When I find thrush, I use the solution twice a day for a few weeks. I also try to keep my horses in the driest environment I can, but lets face it, life doesn't always go as planned.
