I took my new to me Can-Am Maverick X3 X RC up to Bowman Lake, California for some exploring before heading back to the garage for a few much-needed upgrades to the Rugged Radios G1 GMRS radio and MAC Air pumper system.
Bowman Lake has always been one of my favorite areas to visit, but over the years it has become extremely crowded with campers. These days, I usually pass through the main camping areas and spend my time exploring the surrounding forest roads and trails instead.
It made for a perfect excuse to get the X3 out and put some more miles on it.
After the trip, it was back to the garage.
The Can-Am originally came with a Rugged Radios RM60, which I later upgraded to an M1. Being completely new to UTV radio systems, I eventually realized that neither setup was giving me what I actually wanted: GMRS.
Luckily, I was able to pick up a Rugged Radios G1 40W GMRS radio and swap it into the existing setup.
I also went through the Rugged Radios MAC Air two-person pumper system.
Air pumpers are completely new to me, and the previous installation had wiring routed all over the cage. Since I've been cleaning up and simplifying the wiring throughout this X3, I decided to redo the MAC Air setup as well.
I integrated the system into my AUXBEAM switch controller and rerouted the wiring through the dash for a much cleaner installation with fewer wires running around the cage.
So far, both upgrades have been working great.
I'm excited to get the X3 back on the trail and put the Rugged Radios G1, RRP696 intercom, and MAC Air system through some real-world testing.
