Everyone told us Kuala Lumpur is just a stopover. 48 hours later, we'd climbed the 272 rainbow steps of Batu Caves, eaten our way down Jalan Alor, and watched the skyline disappear into the rain.
Our flights from Bengaluru cost ₹16,811 for both of us, and our stay was ₹6,400 for two nights. Stay till the end for exactly how we did it.
💸 WHAT IT COST (2 people)
✈️ Flights: Bengaluru → Kuala Lumpur, AirAsia non-stop, ₹16,811 (one way, booked 8½ months ahead)
🏠 Stay: Airbnb in a 30-storey tower near the Petronas Towers, ₹6,400 for 2 nights
🚆 KTM Komuter, Batu Caves → KL Sentral: about RM 2.60, ~35 min
🚗 Getting around the city: Grab
✈️ HOW WE FLEW FOR UNDER ₹17,000
1. Book early: we booked in January for an October trip
2. Watch the booking window: airlines open bookings close to a year ahead, so set a fare alert
3. Fly low-cost: AirAsia is headquartered at Kuala Lumpur airport and is usually the cheapest way in
🌦 WHY OCTOBER?
Quieter season, lower prices and Deepavali lights everywhere. Expect warm days around 24–32°C with afternoon showers, so carry an umbrella.
🛂 Indian passport holders: Malaysia is visa-free for up to 30 days until 31 Dec 2026. Fill in the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card (MDAC) online before you fly, and check the latest rules before you travel.
