The walk begins at Koijigahama Beach, known as "Lovers' Beach." Its name comes from an old legend of lovers who fled to this shore, and today it is one of Japan's designated "Lovers' Sanctuaries." From the beach, we follow the seaside promenade to the white Irago Cape Lighthouse, where waves crash against the rocks as the sun sinks into the sea. The island you can see offshore is Kamishima, the setting of Yukio Mishima's novel "The Sound of Waves." As the sky shifts from golden orange to deep twilight blue, the walk ends with fishermen casting their lines into the evening sea.
