As our hormones shift, so much in the body shifts with them. Sleep. Mood. Skin. And one of the most unexpected? Pain. Maybe it's a frozen shoulder that shows up out of nowhere. Maybe it's a knee that aches on the stairs for no reason. It can feel like your body flipped a switch overnight, and you're left wondering why you suddenly feel like the Tin Man. That's exactly what we dig into this week with returning guest Colleen Jorgensen. Colleen spent years being told her chronic pain was "all in her head." Then she survived a spinal cord compression that left her staring at the ceiling, unable to walk. She turned that experience into her Dare to Heal program, built to help people rewire their relationship to pain. In this episode, we get into why pain is real but not always accurate. Why tissues finish healing in 12 weeks, yet pain can stick around for years. And the tiny, under-a-minute nervous system practices that actually shift it. We also talk about why so many of us in midlife are disconnected from our body's signals in the first place. It has a lot to do with everything we're carrying that nobody else can see. In this episode we explore: • Why pain is 100% real, but not the full story. • Colleen's own story: years of being dismissed by doctors, and the injury that changed everything. • The 30-second to 1-minute nervous system practices you can stack onto other habits. • Why water is such a powerful tool for pain and regulation. The 360-degree freedom, the quiet, the way it pulls your brain out of "fix it" mode. • How the invisible load we carry in midlife trains us to override our body's signals until pain has to get loud to be heard. Colleen Jorgensen is an Osteopath, a graduate of Pain Care U’s Professional Pain Care program and a therapeutic Pilates, yoga and Somatics teacher. She combines manual therapy, current neuroscience research and the polyvagal theory with creative, embodied movement, mindfulness, awareness, and a distinctive, compassionate approach to pain care and movement.  Resources: • Join Colleen's free workshop, Unlearn Pain (https://stillness-in-motion.heymarvel...) .
