Humayun's Tomb

Explore the magnificent Humayun’s Tomb in Delhi — one of India’s most remarkable examples of Mughal architecture. 🕌✨ Built in the 16th century, Humayun’s Tomb was commissioned by Empress Bega Begum, the first wife and chief consort of Mughal Emperor Humayun. Designed by the Persian architects Mirak Mirza Ghiyas and his son Sayyid Muhammad, the monument is considered the first garden-tomb on the Indian subcontinent. The tomb is surrounded by a beautiful Charbagh-style garden, with symmetrical pathways, water channels, and lush greenery. Its grand red sandstone structure, white marble details, large arches, and distinctive double dome make it one of Delhi’s most iconic historical monuments. Humayun’s Tomb was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1993 and is considered an important landmark in the development of Mughal architecture. Its architectural style and garden setting also influenced later Mughal monuments, culminating in the construction of the Taj Mahal.
