Assos, Fiskardo and Myrtos Beach Viewpoint (26/05/2026) During our 2-week holiday on Kefalonia we hired a car for 3 days, with road trips planned to access parts of the island away from Lixouri and Argostoli, both of which were easily accessible the rest of the time by Ionian Sea Ferries 25 minute crossing. For our 1st road trip we headed north to Assos and Fiskardo stopping off on the way at Myrtos Beach Viewpoint Myrtos Beach Viewpoint On the road from Lixouri to Assos we stopped after about 35 minutes driving at the southern of the two Myrtos Beach Viewpoint. Breath-taking! (… and that’s just crossing the road on a blind corner!) Wonderful views down to Myrtos Beach and in the far distance we could see Assos Castle connected to the village of Assos by a narrow isthmus. *********************************** Assos If you’ve seen any photos or videos of Kefalonia, then as well as Myrtos Beach, they frequently feature the wonderful village of Assos, which is approximately a further 20 minute drive from the viewpoint. Lots of lovely cafés, tavernas, restaurants, shops and beautiful walks around the bay and up towards the castle. We opted against the full walk up to (1 hour round trip) the castle, as it was already too hot and we wanted to head over to Fiskardo next. Lots of great photo and video opportunities. *********************************** Fiskardo After a couple of hours in Assos we drove north and then east for 35 minutes to Fiskardo on the north eastern coast of Kefalonia, with Lefkada to its north and Ithaka to the east. Fiskardo has been variously described as: ‘… a picturesque, upscale harbour village which is a highly popular destination for yachting, sailing, and refined dining’ ‘ … Unlike traditional, sleepy Greek fishing villages, Fiskardo has a distinctly "posh" feel, lined with boutique shops, high-end seafood restaurants, and trendy cocktail bars.’ If you like that sort of thing then you’ll love it here. As for us… we’ll take traditional, sleepy Greek fishing villages (and towns) every day of the week e.g. Assos, Agia Effimia, Karavomylos, Lixouri, etc. *********************************** Photos and videos © David Currie 2026 *********************************** MUSIC CREDITS Here We Go by Imperss   / imperss   *********************************** CHAPTERS 00:00 Intro 00:14 Myrtos Beach Viewpoint 00:39 Drive down to Assos 01:00 Village of Assos: the bay, the harbour, and the castle 03:14 Fiskardo 04:38 Typical Kefalonian traffic jam on attempting to leave Fiskardo 05:45 Credits
