I'm 41, single, and living in Wuhan, China — a city of around 13 million people. Today, I went out to enjoy a day on my own, but I didn't expect to find a nearly empty shopping mall and only three people in a huge movie theater, including me! Welcome back to another realistic day in my life in China. I started my afternoon with a bowl of beef rice noodles at one of my favorite local restaurants. Then I got a haircut and stopped by the traffic police office to pay a fine for a motorcycle violation. After that, I headed to a shopping mall. It was surprisingly quiet. These days, online shopping is so convenient in China that I rarely visit malls just to buy things anymore. I decided to watch a movie by myself, something I've always enjoyed. And honestly, having almost the entire theater to myself was pretty great! Later, I stopped at a small local restaurant for some chicken soup, then bought sugarcane and jicama from a fruit shop on my way home. But my day wasn't over yet. That evening, a friend who had fractured her leg wanted to get out of the house after spending about a month recovering at home. I helped her downstairs, and we went out for a late-night barbecue with her 7-year-old son. I'd spent most of the day enjoying my own company, but I ended up sharing a fun evening with two people I care about. At 41, I enjoy the freedom of doing things on my own. But sharing a meal and a few laughs with friends is pretty nice too. Sometimes, happiness really is that simple. *What about you? Do you prefer spending time alone or having company?* Let me know in the comments. I'd love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for watching and spending another day with me here in Wuhan, China.
