I Spent 20 Years as an Appalachian Search and Rescue Officer. There Are Three Cases We Never Solved

I Spent 20 Years as an Appalachian Search and Rescue Officer. There Are Three Cases We Never Solved A retired search and rescue officer with twenty years in the southern Appalachian district shares the three cases he never fully closed — a nine-year-old girl found dry and unhurt on the wrong side of a flooded mountain creek, two hunters who vanished from a backcountry camp where four cups had been used but only three men went in, and a routine lights investigation on a closed ridge that ended with his partner sitting in a chair he had no memory of entering, staring at a window that faced the wrong direction. Names and locations have been changed. The official reports are filed. The explanations are on record. But in twenty years of this work, these are the three cases where the official explanation and what he actually documented were not the same thing — and the detail that never made it into any report is the one that still sits with him at two in the morning. #appalachianhorror, #appalachiantrail, #horrorstories Gathering Darkness by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Source: incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100849 Artist: incompetech.com/ The Halloween Dawn by Twin Musicom is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Source: www.twinmusicom.org/song/248/the-halloween-dawn Artist: www.twinmusicom.org Ice Demon by Kevin MacLeod is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license. creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/ Source: incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1200061 Artist: incompetech.com/
