A spectacular hike to Gimmelwald and Murren

In this episode we escape the crowds of Lauterbrunnen to take on a challenging and hugely rewarding hike commencing from our campsite (Camping Rutti) at the end of the valley in Steckelberg. We hardly saw another person during this 7K four hour hike- quite a feat for a beautiful sunny day in August in the Lauterbrunnen Valley. This steep hike takes us up over 700 metres in elevation and rewards us with multiple waterfalls and awesome views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. Both Gimmelwald and Murren are picturesque alpine car free villages connected by farm roads, hiking trails and gondolas. We saved our knees by taking the gondola from Mürren to Gimmelwald and then another gondola back to the base at Steckleberg for what we thought was a very reasonable 11.80€ one way.
