La Ronge has a remarkably important aviation history for a relatively small northern community. Aviation isn't just transportation there—it has been central to how northern Saskatchewan is connected. Barber Field Airport (YVC/CYVC) La Ronge (Barber Field) Airport (YVC) is about 2 km northeast of La Ronge. The present airport opened in 1976, replacing an earlier strip near what is now Air Ronge. There is also a waterbase on Lac La Ronge, reflecting the older northern aviation tradition where floatplanes were often the only practical way to reach remote locations.
