What really happened during Elvis Presley’s final hours at Graceland on August 16, 1977? His security chief, Dick Grob, spent years investigating the events of Elvis’s final night — and his account raises questions that remain debated nearly 50 years later. On the morning of August 16, Elvis Presley was preparing for another concert tour. He had discussed new songs, made plans for the future, and spent his final night surrounded by familiar faces. Hours later, the King of Rock and Roll was found unresponsive inside Graceland. What happened during those missing hours? In this episode of The EP Vault’s Did Elvis Have to Die? investigation, we examine Dick Grob’s book The Elvis Conspiracy? and reconstruct the events of August 15–16, 1977, almost hour by hour. We investigate: Elvis Presley’s final conversation with Dick Grob His late-night visit to the dentist The movie outing that never happened His final racquetball game with Billy and Jo Smith The people assigned to work at Graceland that night The critical hours between approximately 8:00 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. in Grob’s reconstruction The discovery of Elvis and the emergency response Grob’s ultimate conclusions about Elvis Presley’s death We’ll also examine the differences between what Grob personally witnessed, what others told him, and the allegations that remain disputed. Grob ultimately concluded that Elvis died of natural causes. But he continued asking whether an earlier response might have changed the outcome. Could Elvis Presley have been saved?
