"5AM meal prep before work in rural Japan: a part-time dad cooks two days of Japanese home-style dinners — eggplant and pork soboro, and a squid, taro and eggplant simmer — before his family of five wakes up.
The pork: about $1.17 (¥175). The eggplants: free, from the garden. The squid: bigfin reef squid I caught myself, alone, late at night on the Seto Inland Sea.
I'm Yuki, 38. Sixteen years in hospitals, burnout, a long stretch without work — and now three days a week back in rehab. Since I went back, dinner keeps landing late. Then bedtime. Then the next morning.
So the alarm goes off at five.
Pigtails before daycare. What you told me about new coworkers. And one small person at the table with very strong opinions about eggplant.
What time do families with young kids eat dinner where you live? Tell me below.

A slightly closer room, for anyone who wants it.
It all goes toward food on the table, repairs on this old house,
and the time to keep filming. Nothing is expected — watching is already enough.
