You understand English when you listen, but when it’s your turn to speak, the words don’t come.
You know the vocabulary. You understand the grammar. But in a real conversation, familiar English can suddenly feel difficult to reach.
In this episode, Bella explains why understanding English and speaking English are different skills — and how to make more of the English you already know easier to access when you actually need it.
You’ll discover three common places where speaking gets stuck:
• Access — you know the English, but it doesn’t come quickly enough
• Building — you know the words, but you spend too long trying to build the perfect sentence
• Pressure — you can speak more easily alone, but real conversations make you freeze or overthink
Then we’ll use a simple four-step method:
Retrieve → Say → Add → Change
Instead of trying to memorize more and more English, you’ll practice bringing familiar English back, saying something simple, adding to the idea, and expressing the same meaning in a different way.
You’ll learn how to:
✨ retrieve familiar English more easily
✨ start with a simple sentence instead of waiting for the perfect answer
✨ use useful “launch phrases” to begin naturally
✨ keep speaking when you forget a word
✨ understand the difference between shadowing and retrieval practice
✨ repeat an idea without memorizing the same sentence
✨ handle pressure and keep a real conversation moving
✨ make the English you already know easier to use
This episode is designed for A2–B2 English learners, especially learners who understand much more English than they feel comfortable speaking.
